Goofy and genuinely spooky in equal measure

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is one of the great spooky delights of my childhood and is still a solid piece of work. Movies for children should feature elements of genuine horror, moments where you pull the covers up to your eyes in fear, then peek out because you can’t resist. That moment for me as a child happened when Scooby and the Gang realize that there is no rational explanation behind what’s going on, that monsters do exist and they are fierce. Scenes like this are the small building blocks upon children start to investigate the world around them and their own imaginations.

This film isn’t a masterpiece, but it still has an edge to it that is enjoyable, even in my old age of 25. Also, “Terror Time” is a bop and one of the best movie songs ever.
