Hatred holds us all captive

I sympathized with each character and then I loathed their decisions, then went back to sympathizing with them again. Prisoners is a great thriller because it never asks the viewer how they would react to an abduction: it asks them to understand the film’s characters who, like all humans, are deeply flawed.
