A sweet slapstick-inspired film with a gooey marmalade heart in the right place

The most pleasant good-natured film that I have watched in a long time, Paddington delivers genuine slapstick gags, akin to Keaton and Lloyd, coupled with a hearty sentimentality inspired by the best of Chaplin’s moral tales. The film is an affirmation of family values and moreover, a humanistic ethos, tracing its way back to Mr. Rodgers with the idea that “if we’re kind and polite, then the world will be alright.”

Paddington may be a small and sometimes clueless bear, but he knows that if we treat people better than they are, then they will become the person they were meant to be.

That belief permeates Paddington and makes it a true joy to experience.

And if you’re not following @jaythechou on Twitter, you are missing out on some delightful adventures that Paddington has gone in the cinematic universe at large
